Every month, Telling Tales releases a simple challenge for readers and writers. Our Creativity Club allows teachers and homeschoolers to submit their student’s work and have the submissions featured on our website and social media. Writing challenges are a highly effective tool for aspiring authors and anyone looking to improve their literacy skills, so join in on our monthly Creativity Club.

Quick Fire Challenge From The Creativity Club

Our submission this month comes from our Quick Fire Challenge, where writers are challenged to write for 5 minutes nonstop using the 3 words provided by our Creativity Club.

November’s Quick Fire Word Challenge:
scrumptious, scathing and cauldron.

Read The Submission,

The children gathered. They all lined up along the edge of the forest, the exact location that they discussed earlier in the morning. This unique forest was an odd blend of old growth coniferous trees mixed with magical white and red oaks. An unusual type of forest, especially along the edge of this valley.

The children were still and quiet. The opening met a farmers field. An orchard. The orchard was overflowing with the most scrumptious fruit one could imagine. The kids were worried. They read an article last week. It was a scathing review of old Tom’s field. They collecting as much fruit as they could. The timer was set. They were ready.

They ran into the field and gathering what they could then hid in the protective cover of the forest canopy. They found the cauldron, it was just where old Tom said it would be. All the fruit went in. They stirred with all their might. The mixture was made. They collapsed in relief, exhausted though pleased. Smiling in the setting sun.
