Volunteers are the heart of so many organizations, businesses and local groups and this week we are celebrating all they do for us! Now more than ever, it is important to recognize all the hard work, dedication and selflessness of our volunteer community.
“Almost 13 million Canadian volunteers deserve our coast-to-coast-to-coast cheers for their dedication and generosity. Let’s all join together to applaud their immense contribution to our country, our communities and millions of our lives during National Volunteer Week (NVW)“
Volunteer Canada
Here at Telling Tales, we are in our 12th year of hosting our beloved Telling Tales festival and programs. That’s 12 years of connecting top Canadian authors with families and sparking a love for reading in thousands of children in our community. That’s 12 years and countless hours of volunteer contributions that have made our festival and programming come to life!
There is no way Telling Tales would exist without our amazing volunteers who work so closely with us to run our community events and host our festival. Our team of volunteers keeps our programs running through their tireless dedication and hard work planning, staffing, and facilitating events, promoting our festival and acting as enthusiastic ambassadors of our organization. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and bring their own skills and experiences to help enhance our programming and create strong community connections and partnerships.
Since 2009, over 500 volunteers have worked an annual average of 120 hours towards delivering our community programs and hosting our festival. Nearly 800 combined hours are contributed by our volunteers on festival day alone, in order to inspire a love of reading in children, connect great Canadian artists to the families who attend, and help deliver a magical experience for everyone!
“…I just wanted to be here, I wanted to help but I also wanted to experience it (Nature Tales) and you get to do both when you volunteer! We’re celebrating Canadian authors and illustrators and the love for reading and literacy!”
Lana Button – Children’s Author & Volunteer
Our volunteers are an integral part of the Telling Tales team. They help plan and host a festival of enormous size and complexity – a feat that would simply be impossible without them; and they help design and deliver community programming which enriches the lives of countless children in the community. In addition to all of that, our volunteers connect us to our artists, handle our marketing strategies, design our volunteer roles and sit on our Board of Directors.Without their talent, expertise, and knowledge Telling Tales would not be the organization it is today!
